Hung-up upon boot up (linux9)

Good day!

I am new to linux and i have just installed my first Linux OS, however upon installation during first boot up it hangs up at this point: "VP_IDE: Unknown VIA Southbridge, Disabling DMA." does any one know how to fix this problem. My computer is a core 2 duo with a VIA chipset board.

I really appreciate the help you will be providing.

Welcome to LQ!!
Please let us know what Linux version you are using ( "Linux9" is ambiguous---it is maybe Redhat 9, SUSE9, Fedora 9??), and other details of your setup.

Support for RH9 was dropped in 2004. Your hardware is relatively new. There is very little chance that RH9 will be able to support it. Try switching to a supported version. RHEL5.1(Red Hat Enterprise Linux) is the current Red Hat version, but they charge for updates. Centos is RHEL with the logos removed, it is free to download and update. Fedora 9 (basically the development branch of Red Hat) has just been released. The only problem with Fedora is each version is only supported for about a year. For a server this is a pointless PITA but for a desktop it is ok. I run Centos on my servers and Fedora on my desktop.
