Hung Kernel Update

Just did a yum update (CentOS 5.3). Update got to the kernel update installation and has hung. Is it okay to kill this? How can I do that w/o screwing up my existing configuration?

by default afaik, the updater doesn't overwrite your current kernel, it just adds a new map in /usr/src for a new kernel update, which you'd have to compile yourself. So your BzImage should not have been overwritten, nor your grub entry linking to ur kernel image. Imho it can't hurt to cancel the update. I must admit i've never used CentOS, but with gentoo, if u update, it just downloads a kernel revision then puts it in /usr/src.

Many Thanks!

Turns out VMware forced the issue. Apparently there was an I/O error of some kind with the VMware VMDK and the only way to resolve was to shut down the VM and restart it. All came up successfully so we're in good shape.

Many thanks for the reply!
