(huge noob) Questions about Mandriva linux

Hello all.

I dowloaded Mandriva One last night to try out on my old duron 750 system...well the mobo in it is pissing me off and not booting anything. So ive decided to try and dual boot it on my main sempron rig. Obviously with mandriva one you have to use it as a live CD first...then decide if you want to install it on your hard drive. correct? well thats fine no problem there. I changed the boot sequence on my sempy PC and booted up mandriva.

First Problem: I noticed my dual screen setup isnt working correctly. im just getting a mirror image on both screens. No problem I say to myself. Im sure theres some sort of simple option to fix that...Well I looked for half an hour and couldnt find anything. as ive said above im VERY VERY new at this and would really appreceate it if someone could give me a step by step guide to fixing that.

Second Problem:
My two screens oporate at a res of 1152x864 in Windows XP but in mandriva I cant seem to get them any higher than 800x600 and I can stand it! Im sure there must be a way to fix that too...I just havent found it.

So if someone could help me with these to problems That would be excelent.:)

My system specs if you need em.

Sempron 3000+ (s754)
ASUS K8N mobo
XFX 7600GT (AGP)
40GB maxtor HDD
80GB maxtor HDD

Hi and welcome to LQ :D Your two problems would likely be solved by installing the full graphics card drivers rather then using the ones contained within Mandriva (think of how Windows looks when you use the VGA driver - Linux drivers are better, but the full ones are better still).

If your card is an Nvidia or an Ati card, you can get drivers from their websites.

So I can use the driver im using on windows...with Mandriva Linux too? For my video card that is.

No, a driver written for linux for the appropriate video card.

For instance, for Nvidia:
