Angry .htaccess hell...

I'm running an Apache server on RH 7.2. I've checked my .htaccess file at least seven times now, as well as my httpd.conf file and the Apache documentation (as well as several other people's versions of it) - everything seems to be set right:

.htaccess -

AuthUserFile /path/to/Folder/.htpasswd
AuthName "Restricted"
AuthType Basic
Require valid-user

Also:

#
# AccessFileName: The name of the file to look for in each directory
# for access control information.
#
AccessFileName .htaccess

(These values were direclty copied from my files...). I have created a password file from htpasswd and added four users to it (and confirmed that they were added). However, when I access the folder that is supposed to be access controlled - I get in with nothing! No challenge - Apache just opens up the folder...

I'm very frustrated. Does anyone have any ideas???

Thanks,

- Yaron

Have you set the "AllowOverride" directive in the Apache config file to allow .htaccess to take effect?
