Just want to share what I discovered 10 minutes ago.
I use Linux Mint 9 Isadora XFCE (the best Linux distro for an ex Windows slave like me). Unfortunately, I couldn't print with my HP Deskjet 3920 which uses black catridge on one side only. The result is always BLANK... NADA... ZERO... NOTHING... But I could print with the printer by using my other laptop which uses Windows XP in it.
So after searching and google-ing, I managed to print out successfully. Here are the steps taken:
Open “Menu” (on your bottom left monitor), choose “System”, click “Synaptic Package Manager”.
In the search form, type “hpijs-ppds”. When you see the result, right click or double click the “hpijs-ppds” and mark all of them for installation (click the uppermost one).
At the Upper part of the Synaptic Package Manager there's an “Apply” button. Hit it.
Wait until it finishes installing and upgrading.
Suddenly there's a blue HP icon on the bottom right of your monitor. Give it a double click.
Choose tab “Print Setting”, Drop down this menu: “Quality (also see 'Printout Mode' under 'General')”
choose anything that has the word BLACK in it, example: 300 dpi, Draft, Grayscale, Black Cartr.
If you want to use both COLOR and BLACK catridge, choose anything that has both words, example: 300 dpi, Color, Black + Color Cartr.
