howto update bash 2.05b > 3.0

can I install version 3.0 ontop the previous?
i tried this with package bash 3.0 - ./configure - make -make test
the first two comands ok, the test failed ..

Since Mandrake is rpm based, why mess with sourcr tarballs (other than .src.rpm). Get the bash 3.0 rpm from a Mandrake repository, or at least the .src.rpm (and compile a binary for your box).

Then use rpm -U <packagename>.rpm to upgrade the existing installed version of bash.
