Question Howto run a job on a fixed time with cron?

I am a newbie, and I have some trouble in getting a job running on a fixed moment.
Let's say, I want to run a job every wednesday at midnight
Otherwise I must enter a long array of options every time I run the job, with the risk of errors.
Now I know about cron, but how can I get it working for me?

Please help this dummy

Kind regards,

Schmurff
