Howto mapping windows fonts to linux one?
 

Hi,

I'm happy with linux as linux can do alomost more than windows at FOC.
But some document ported from windows machine has a font which is not in linux. (especially in Japanese environment)

The problem is that if there is a font in a windows document which is not supported in linux, I can not see it without conversion of its fonts manually.
And in Japanese Kanji document, it'll almost happen.
I feel fonts issue is the last hurdle for my linux system.

I'd like to map some windows fonts to linux fonts. For example, MS Gothic to Kochi Gothic (both are Japanese fonts name). So it'll be seen as Kochi Gothic in linux without conversion, I guess.
(There will be another way that is copying windows fonts to linux, I guess. But I'll try fonts mapping first)

I think it'll be possible but I don't know howto.


Please advise me and give me some hints.

Click on Mandrake Control center and run it as root. Then click on system, drakefonts and click on get windows fonts. That should do it. (Although I think linux only gets true type fonts)

Uh, he's using Redhat.

Find the font used in Windows, and then drop it into the ~/.fonts directory, then run fc-cache as root. Now most (modern) apps should be able to see it.

I installed fonts by going here - http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/

All done in a very short time!
