Howto installing files


Hi all,

I'm newbie in linux at I do not have any idea how to install files on linux.

1. Archieves like zip, tar etc...
Of course I can extract them but where?


2. When installing RPM there are alwasy file missing with ".so" extension...
What does this mean? Shoult I download them from somwhere?

you can make use of search feature implemented on this site to reveal an answer to your problem. A little word about #2 - the files that are missing are dependency checks results that performed when you attempt to install rpms. Usually by running search on http://www.rpmfind.net gets you what you need to install prior installing that particular rpm - .so files are shared libs (think of it as DLL in windows world)
