How too? Updating kernel RH9

How do you update the kernel? I need a walk through...cause im a noob. I need to install/update these files: kernel-2.4.20-20.9.i686.rpm and kernel-source-2.4.20-20.9.i686.rpm, so that I can run the latest NVIdia stuff.

My current is 2.4.20-6 on i686

I need a walkthrough starting at login:

I am hoping to solve my problem with loading the graphical interface. I have read many of the fixes but being new to linux, I dont really know what they are doing.

Current setup is:
P4 1.7
Intel 850GB Mb
512 RamBus
NVidia GForce FX 5200 (the cheap version)

Firstly, have you tried doing this through up2date? I seem to remember that the kernel on offer from up2date is 2.4.20-18 or something similar.

If you insist on going via rpm, reading this from the Red Hat Support section.
