How to visit a url using a shell script or unix command


Hi,
I want to visit a url(eg:http://www.google.com) but this shall be invoked by a shell script. Can any one please let me know the command to hit a url in unix.

Depends, why do you want to hit the url?
Do you want to download the content or just create hits?

A program named w3m can browse web pages or you can use curl library for advanced operations
"w3m http://google.com"

hm, perhaps telnet to port 80 would do.

Writing a script, just to create hits on a website is not done.
You could overload the webserver, and get banned.
I don't see the use of this.
