how to use setserial to change irq
 

my internal modem is not autodetected..
i chequed out the irq..it says irq 12

my modem is on irq4

its on com3 [dev/ttyS2 ..am i right]


i think changing the irq will work...

can ne 1 tell me how to do this

from a terminal
setserial /dev/ttyS2 uart 16550a irq 4

i tried this...still the irq of the modem does not change from 12 to 4

i typed in wvconf

and it says... cannot open /dev/ttyS2

still not getting this setserial to change my modem irq from 12 to 4

lspci -vv shows communication device on irq 12 actually i checked out in windoews and odem is on irq 4...yelp

what kind of modem are we talking about?
sounds like there might be a irq conflict then as well, or your modem wants to try using another com port. is it a hardware modem, if it is you can manually adjust the irq/com jumpers on the board.
have you tried using another irq to test and see if it works, i have mine on irq 9 and on ttyS2.

modem is aztech 56k internal MSP 3880SP-U
based on rockwell chipset

modem works fine in windows 98
in device manager...it shows irq 4 and 03e8

i cannot manuuallly adjust jumpers on the board..hey man im sure there is no prob here as modem works fine in win98se

at first the dialup package in gnome showed modem busy

i entered some setserial commands
and now it says

cannot open /dev/ttyS2...I/O error

can you tell me wherein the prob lies
