How to use all sapce of the HDD if it not convered at time of installation?


Hi All,

Suppose I have 40 GB HDD and installed linux with 2 partitions / and swap only taking 10 GB and 1GB space respectively. So, Now what I have to do to use rest of available space and how can I use rest of space of harddisk. plz reply!

Well you would set up the rest of it as /home to store all your data

You can resize your main partition or you can mount it as a new partition under directory like /mnt/disk5....
I hope i understand your question....

You can format the rest of the disk and mount it as /home1, then move all your data from /home to /home1, then unmount the new partition from /home1, mount it as /home; update /etc/fstab, and you should be good to go (your home dir will be using the new partition)
You can follow a similar procedure with any directory, really.
