Slight problem with that, and anyone can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is a free downloadable version of Mandrake 10. I think you have to buy it.

Oh really ? anyone could confirm it ????

No -- Mandrake 10 official was on linuxiso.org last time I looked there, so it is downloadable. I am not a Mandrake user though, so I have no idea how to upgrade, though. Doesn't the installation have an upgrade option?

I am running the downloadable free version of Mandrake 10.

I think if you want to upgrade, you should probably go into your menu in KDE or Gnome and look for "Configure your system". Click it.

It asks for the root password. Give it

It opens Mandrake Control Center.

Click Software Management.

Click Updates

It will go out and search the URPMI connections you have for updates. If you have the CD's and update_source, that's what it searches. You can manually add a contrib and PLF source media as well as FTP sites using Easy URPMI (read about it at URPMI.org and search for Easy URPMI on Google).

It finds the updates you need. Click all three boxes: Security Updates, BugFix Updates, and Normal Updates.

Check the ones you want to install.

Push the install button.

Away it goes, upgrading your system.

All of this is under Mandrake 10. Hopefully it is similar under Mandrake 9.

You can download mandrake 10, also
when you put in the cd, it gives you a choice to 'Clean install' 'Upgrade' 'Repair'

mandrake 10 "official" is the downloadable one (3 cds)... "community" is the one from the mandrakeclub (4 cds). there's also one that comes in a retail box from your favorite retailer - i don't know what it's called on the street, but i know it's got some sort of "power pack" of tools with it.

sorry about that, I went to Mandrake's website and found only the power pack and the discovery
