you can try making a bootable stick of http://peppermintos.com/ (with http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/) - it's lightweight/fast (fits perfectly in your machine) and comes with adobe flash player installed and all kinds of video/audio playable, witch is very beginner-friendly :P

Or if you want a full distro, Mint comes with Flash and non-free codecs preinstalled.

Ok, creating the bootable usb drive/ successful! I will try on pc this evening, again thanks for all the help. If does not work I will try peppermintos.

Success!

The USB drive worked and i was able to install Ubuntu 10.1.WOW what a difference from what I had. I am pleased and excited about learning more about using Linux. You can teach old dogs new tricks! Thank you all
