Question How to uninstall linux without losing data on other partitions?

Hi all,

I am a newbie to linux and tried installing fc6. I now want to uninstall linux and do not want to lose the data I have on the non-linux partitions( fat ). On searching the net, I found that by deleting all the partitions using fdisk, and later installing xp, this could be done. Please advice me if there is any way by which I could uninstall linux without losing my data on other partitions?
I tried formatting the linux partitions by booting with xp cd but ended up getting the 'Missing Operating System' error.

Just delete your Linux partitions. You'll also want to reinstall Windows' bootloader and there's lots of threads here that will tell you how.

Did you install with dual-boot? i.e. did you keep Windows on the system?

If Windows IS there, try booting from the Windows CD in rescue mode, and running fixmbr.

If not, then you can boot from a Linux "live cd" such as Knoppix, and delete the Linux partitions from there. You can also do this with a Bootable CD partition tool such as GParted.

Thank you both for your suggestions..

Accidentally I ran this command :
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=521 count=1
to delete the boot loader but found that it had deleted all my partitions

So, I had to reformat the hard drive and install windows into it.
After that, I also installed fedora core 6, but it installed with some problems. I will post my enquiry in a new thread.
