How to turn off the computer in Mandriva 2006, Free Edition?

I just installed Mandriva 2006, Free Ed. When I try to quit I go to the Main Menu and hit Log Out. Up pops a familiar Dialogue Box. But whereas the box usually has on it the options to: End Session, Turn Off Computer, Restart Computer and one other one I think. This Dialogue Box only has on it: End Session. When I hit that the session ends but then I'm presented the log in screen, asking for a User Name and Password. There is no way to turn off the computer. I sure wouldn't ever have anticipated this. I had to manually shut off my machine.

Does anybody have any suggestions for trying to fix this? This is a strange one.

I have a dual booting system with Windows XP being the other OS. I've tried Suse 10.1 and FC 5 with no problems, (like this anyway).

Thanks,

royeo

Code:

poweroff

I think there may be different causes:
- your security level is set too high and only root is allowed to shutdown
- KDE settings

First, you should check the KDE options :
Go to Main menu/System/Configuration/KDE/System/Login manager
Enter your root password and go to the Shutdown tab ; go the "Allow shutdown" box and check that "Everybody" is selected in the "Local" drop-down list.

If you want to get rid of that (imo annoying) dialogue box when logging out you can change the session options in KDE control centre

hello :)
as root make this command in console
" chmod +x+s /sbin/shutdown"
" chmod +x+s /sbin/reboot"

this should let anyone to shutdown or reboot the computer.
