How to stop emacs trying to autoindent php script

Hi,

I'm running the default emacs that comes with Red Hat 9.0. It seems to have a lot of functionality that I didn't get with the straight emacs that came with SuSE 7.1 - it seems more like xemacs.

Anyway, one thing it does that I don't want it to do is autoindent php script.

How do I stop this please?

TIA

You may have syntax hilighting on. Just look around in your options for this. I dont remember where it is at.

I tried turning the syntax highlighting off. This doesn't stop emacs from indenting (and getting it wrong) - it just turns off the feature of colouring the text in according to what is is, which I find helpful, especially as (as far as I've seen so far (my 1st 4 line of php script)) it seems to get it right.

To answer my own question...

I switched to text mode by typing M-x text-mode.
