How to start desktop in Mandrake 9.2
 

Hi there
I have just installed Mandrake 9.2 and would like to know how to start the graphical desktop enviroment?
I get a command line from where I can log in as root or as a user.
You can guess I am new to this! - probably something I should have set up during install?

well assuming you did install a desktop environment during install, did you try to simply type startx from command line yet?

1) how did u install ur OS? because mdk 9.2 in deafult is GUI desktop...

2) try startx in shell, to start desktop

........ and for future reference, if you want to boot into GUI mode by default - as Root user on the command line ( you could open Konsole and su to Root user)

kedit /etc/inittab

when the file opens up change

id:3:initdefault:

to

id:5:initdefault:

then save the file and reboot -

Turns out I did not have the graphics card drivers set properly at the set up screen. I did a reinstal as the above did not work.
Is there a way to get back - or start the configuration - screen again after installation in case I make the same mistake another time?
