How to start desktop in Mandrake 9.2
Hi there
I have just installed Mandrake 9.2 and would like to know how to start the graphical desktop enviroment? I get a command line from where I can log in as root or as a user. You can guess I am new to this! - probably something I should have set up during install? Thanks Foden |
well assuming you did install a desktop environment during install, did you try to simply type startx from command line yet?

1) how did u install ur OS? because mdk 9.2 in deafult is GUI desktop...
2) try startx in shell, to start desktop regard. |
........ and for future reference, if you want to boot into GUI mode by default - as Root user on the command line ( you could open Konsole and su to Root user)
kedit /etc/inittab when the file opens up change id:3:initdefault: to id:5:initdefault: then save the file and reboot - |
Thanks for the help.
Turns out I did not have the graphics card drivers set properly at the set up screen. I did a reinstal as the above did not work. Is there a way to get back - or start the configuration - screen again after installation in case I make the same mistake another time? Thanks again. Mandrake looks good! Foden |
