hi there,
general question, hein?? some tips to help : 1. remove everything that you don't use 2. if you don't need special applications, use a lightweight windowmanager 3. check "dmesg" and "top" and see what is not welcome... and so on.. regards slackie1000 |
Use a lighter desktop environment or better yet, a window manager. If you know what you're doing, recompile your kernel with the -ck patchset that's supposed to speed up desktop systems. There are plenty of little things that can be done :)

Deactivate start-up services you don't need.

You have to determine what's causing the system to slow down. See what services are running and why. There are likely a lot of things running you don't really need and can stop them.
There is no pat answer as there are several things that can cause your system to slow down but usually it's a lot of useless crap using up RAM. Don't run any services you don't need at the time. If you're limited on RAM and using something like KDE, tone down the eye-candy. All those graphical effects cost you performance. |
More swap.

if u are comfortable with compiling a kernel then go for it
and maybe migrate to another OS |
