How to Solve ''url open error 111 - Connection Refused ''?


Hi,
I have been facing this fatal error whenever i update yum or while trying to get access internet from command mode.This troubles me for a long time since i started my work in Linux based project.I put some of examples here.

the Command is:

[root@localhost ~]# yum check-update 
and the OUTPUT is

Loaded pluginsfastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Could not retrieve mirrorlist 
[url]http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el5/en/mirrors-rpmforge[/url] error was
[Errno 4IOError: <urlopen error (111'Connection refused')>
ErrorCannot find a valid baseurl for reporpmforge 
Next YUM make cache Command

[root@localhost ~]#  yum makecache

I got the same error.

Hope I will get help and get rid of this soon...!

sounds like a local firewall / routing issue. that link works fine on the web, so there's something between your server and the internet that's killing it. Try curling that url and seeing if that fails in the same way, which is really should. Maybe you need to use a proxy?

Can you pls just explain the procedure as steps hence it will be beneficial for me to locate the error part then and there? I am using proxy connection only as we provided. Where can i make the changes?
