I got same problem when upgrade my kernel from 2.6.24-23-gereric(ubuntu) to 2.6.33.2, before the upgrade, everything is ok...

after I changed to 2.6.33,
I can see the wlan0 interface by invoking ifconfig -a
but when I try to bring it up with cmd `ifconfig wlan0 up`
I got same message like a_soham... any suggestion?

On my laptop in Ubuntu I found that I sometimes got that message and the answer that I found was to remove the battery from the laptop and put it back in. I think it might be a bios issue, but I never found a real fix. It's a Toshiba a205 satellite laptop. That may or may not have anything to do with your issue.

Thanks, but it also doesn't work
