Question How to setup Write Buffer and Cache on USB Drive?

Hi Everybody,

There are many articles about power saving strategies to use flash drive for write buffer (to reduce write ratio on disk) and cache as LRU (to reduce read ratio on disk).

The questions are:
(1) Is it possible to use this idea on USB drive if the speed is slow campared to hard drive?

(2) How to setup (suse 10.3) and make strategy tests in order to compare the performance and power consumption between with/without use of usb drive?

I have never success to apply hdparm -y to stop hard drive running.

I'm looking forwarding to your reply.
Thanks a lot!
