How do I allow a user or users to create a directory through a bash script?

Please use more descriptive thread titles. "bash" doesn't really tell us anything about what kind of question it is.

And could you explain in more detail please? What do you mean by "allow"? What do you want to do exactly? What have you tried to do so far, and what were the results?

To create a directory you use the mkdir command. But whether you can actually do it depends primarily on the permissions of the containing directory.

I need to set up a directory structure for a class assignment. i need to create a directory structure for a new accountant that is organized to house the following items( note: i only need to create the directory structure for this deliverable. it is not necessary to create programs or any of the items that the new accountant will house in these directories): *the program files for the accounting system * Data files for accounts recievable, accounts payable and general ledger * Business reports * Rich text files................... i need 1 script for users n 1 for admin. i dont know how to do any of this, but I would love for you guys to teach me. Thanks!

Please note that we are not here to do your homework for you, but may well point out where you are going wrong.

If you break the task down into it's component parts it becomes easier.

Why do you need a seperate script for admin? How are you determining whether a user is a standard user or admin user (assume this does not mean "root" user)?

It's still not clear to me exactly where your problem lies. Again, what have you tried so far? Have you even looked at the documentation for mkdir (man mkdir) yet? Are you trying to do something and getting an error? If so, then post the command and the error.

The more details you give about your problem, the better we can help you. But do be aware that we will try to guide you when you have problems, but we won't do your homework for you. You have to do the actual work yourself or else you won't learn anything.
