How to set up Samba?
I was wondering how do I set up Samba, and use it effectively.
Can a Winmodem be used under Samba? I know I have Samba installed, but I cant find it on my system. I have Red Hat 8, and I am trying anything I can to get online with Linux without having to buy a new modem. Thanks guys, Jsin |
I'm a bit confused by your question. You say you want to learn how to use Samba, but then you say you are trying to get online from your Linux box.
What is your end goal? Set up a LAN to share your internet connection? File Sharing with Windows boxes? (That's what Samba is for) |
I managed to setup samba using a thread which it explains it all...
http://www.linuxforums.org/viewtopic...ighlight=samba follow this and you cant go wrong....im a complete noob and i did it. But one question though i have now installed MDK 9.2 and i cant find samba!! i know its installed......but i cant find it to run it... any help would be appreciated |
to run samba you need a configuration file called smb.conf. It's probably located in /etc/samba. There's a lot to know, but you can start with
man smb.conf man samba |
that's to configure it, not run it
|
I realize that, but one wont get far without knowing how to configure anything. And especially without knowing how to read the man page (which explains pretty clearly how to run it).
