How to set standard font in Firefox?

I started to use Firefox yesterday and I really do like it, but there is one problem:
I like answering emails by writing between the lines of the originals. But when I do so (and click in the line I want to answer), Firefox always changes my font to the one used by the sender (in that line, of course). Now, I do know that I can allow ONLY my standard font, but I'd like to view and read my incoming mails in the font used by the sender and only want to enforce the use of my standard font for everything I write, so it stops changing.

How is this possible?

why would you think that you're editing e-mails with firefox? it's a browser. The email client is thunderbird.

Whichever, Edit>preferences>General>fonts and colours usually does that job.
