How do I set the environmental variable $EDITOR to a different default editor.

you don't need to find it, it is there

(almost all the time)

I was just referring to the prompt.

just try the export part.

figured it out -

this just seems to set it for the session

How do I make it Permanent

add it to either your $HOME/.bashrc ( for your user )

or to /etc/profile ( for all users )
