How to send email to a file for parsing

Im working through dreamhost.com and have some linux/scripting knowledge

I have an email address set up. I want to send any email that comes to there to a text file to be parsed (ie with a python script or something).

Whats the best way to go about this?

Can you set up a .forward file for the account, I think if you put:

"> name_of_file"

into your .forward, that should do the trick. You could also just parse the mail spool folder directly, or pipe the message to a program (by putting "| name_of_program" in the .forward file). This assumes Sendmail as the MTA, but should work with everything else (I think qmail requires a special added package installed to handle .forward files).
