How to run update modules
 

Hi, All;

I'm using Debian 3 on a 320MB RAM, PII MMX with a 15GB Western Digital HD. I'm trying to configure my sound. I have an old sound blaster 16 PCI card. I have not yet downloaded ALSA, as I wanted to know how to update modules before I did. Any gurus here who can provide solution. ;-) All help is appreciated and TIA.

Try, as root:

modprobe sb

This should get your sound working. Also, check your permissions for /dev/dsp, /dev/dsp0, and /dev/audio to make sure your other users (non-root) are allowed to listen to sounds as well. Any problems, let us know. :)
