how to run printer or scanner in linux
 

How can we run scanner or printer in linux operating system iam not able to take the scan or print from the linux pc. i have ubuntu 6.6 version. plz help me...

Ubuntu uses the CUPS daemon for printing. This can be configured in many ways. ubuntu should have a tool for configuring the printer build in. It's a while since I used ubuntu, so I can't recall where this tool is, but it should be somewhere in the system menu.
CUPS also includes a web based configuration tool. I prefer this, as it's the same on every computer and every desktop environment. You can use this by starting up your favourite webbrowser and go to the adress:
http://localhost:631
When you're in there, there is a guide to add a new printer. It's pretty straight forward actually.

I can't help you with scanners as I never had one, and therefore I have never had the interest to find out how to configure them.

It's an 'all in one' printer or you have a printer (that only prints) and a scanner?

Also, you need to add some kind of information about the the device, you don't say nothing so, 'at least' add the following info:

- Device's model
- Connector type (Serial, parallel, USB...)

If you go to Administration>Printing you should bring up a dialog box. If you click on the add printer button it should find your printer and you can follow the directions to configure it. For your scanner In Synaptic Package manager you will find an app called xsane, install that, you will find it in Graphics after you install it. You did not state what kind of printer or scanner you have but Ubuntu is pretty good with most of them. If you upgraded to Ubuntu 7.10 they are detected on install now, and all you have to do is use them. If you have one of the few Printers that are incompatible with Linux you may find information on a workaround in Ubuntu Forums.
