how to run any binary in background - background process
 
hello forum,

i am have a chat client from jabber.org now i have to keep my terminal open the whole day to run this client. can any one help me with command that could run this binary file in background.

Code:

$ jabber &
the & makes it a backrgound process
or: open yer terminal after you've already typed it wrong ie) like you do now
and press Ctrl+Z
you'll get this type of setup:

$ jabber
^Z jabber suspended
$ bg
[1] #### jabber

Breakdown: jabber - original command
^Z - Ctrl+Z
suspended - process suspended
bg - send process to background
