How to run a program from the terminal in Linux Mint

I installed visualboyadvance via the Software Manager (I also uninstalled it and reinstalled via the terminal with the command "sudo apt-get install visualboyadvance" to make sure)

However, I can't find the application and therefore can't run it.

What do I type into the terminal to run this application?

virtualboyadvance = VBA

Did you seek and read the man page for VBA?
Do you have a game rom that you can run it against?

I do not use it myself, so there are thing I do not feel comfortable commenting about.
Check out the locate command, and if mlocate is not installed try installing the package, run updatedb, then locate virtualboyadvance to find ALL of the files.

When I try to select a program to run the ROM, visualboyadvance is not in the list of available programs. The manpage only tells me certain commands that will do stuff once VBA is already running. Using the mlocate command returns:
/usr/share/linuxmint/mintinstall/installed/VisualBoyAdvance-gtk-32x32.xpm

Is there some generic command that I can type in to run a program that I know the name of? I know that I can launch Firefox just by typing in "firefox" in the terminal.

Just enter
Code:
VisualBoyAdvance /pathtofile/yourgame.gba
You should also be able to install GUI for it, in Ubuntu it is package "visualboyadvance-gtk" and then it will be shown in menu.

That worked. Apparently the package I installed wasn't the -gtk one. I uninstalled and searched for the right one. Now it's showing up when I search for it.
