how to rip dvd sound

I've ripped CDs with the super abcde and ripperX apps, but now I want to rip a DVD soundtrack.
Has anybody managed this so far?

This is not a ripping, but you can launch your sound recorder program (audacity?) and make it record in the right channel, say, wave.
You can try this, if no specialized tool show up.

thanks 4 answer, but I really want to rip, not simply record. Sure it's an option, though.

Its' just that ripping would be cool.

Sure it would be.
I'll let you know if I find anything useful.

BTW, who is Pliny the elder?

Use mplayer. For an example

mplayer -aofile ~/dvdaudiorip.wav -ao pcm -vo null -waveheader -a52drc 0 -channels 2 dvd://1

You can try the one below to get 6 channels, but I have not tried it.
mplayer -aofile ~/dvdaudiorip.wav -ao pcm -vo null -waveheader -a52drc 0 -format 1024 -channels 6 dvd://1

Thanks electro. I'll try that.

bruno, pliny was an ancient roman chronicler of some sort that I came accros years ago in latin class. There was two or even three of them. we can safely say he never installed a linux distro, which means that my LQ signature is an outright and audacious lie.

Anyhow it's ripped off from Descartes or Pascal - ah think - "cogito ergo sum", I think therefore I am.

you could also use MPlayers, mencoder to encode a videoless avi file containing the MP3 stream, then just suck it out of the avi with mplayer again:

mencoder dvd://1 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128 -ovc frameno -o audio.avi
mplayer audio.wav -vo nulll -dumpaudio -audiofile audio.mp3

As presumably you'd be wanting to encode the wav file to mp3 or ogg in the mplayer command given in a previous post.
