[SOLVED] how to restore .evolution

I have just installed ubuntu 10.04 over the 8.10 and didn't have a specific backup plan! it was late at night when the install of 11.04 went horribly wrong.
So I had previously a few months ago backed up my home foleder that has a ./evolution folder
But when i first opened evolution and directed the wizzard to the "backup evolution folder, its says its the wrong file type.

Can anyone give me clear simple advice on how to recover my email account settings and addresses etc.

Can't you just copy the .evolution folder?

i tried copying it but it doesn't make any difference. Perhaps I should be looking at restoring a different folder.

going through some other forums, i realised that i needed to also copy the contents of /.gconf/apps/evolution to my new home folder as well as copying the /.evolution folder to the new home folder.
Now i have all the contacts, tree structure etc as before. I hope this helps someone else.
