How to reset password 14.1

I just installed ubuntu 14.1 and added a pw. I'm sure I set it to go without one. I was browsing and left the systtem idle and it asked for me to re-enter the pw. It does not recongise it. I used 6 characters but it shows 5 - tried various combinations. Tried sending on this forum but was also not recognised. How can I reset the pw? Thanks

you have fresh install and don't know the login password? why don't you make new install, it usually won't take so long to complete.

I just had trouble with a five letter password on Ubuntu 14.04. Any chance it comes with a preinstalled system password?

None - it asks for an entry during install.

It was easier then I thought

I just re-started and was loggged in automatically and changed the settings option to not require a pw after an idle. A bit quicker than reinstalling but am still wondering what happened first time. I was sure I had the pw correct.

You need to also know if you're going to be able to install software or update without password.
You did get back in right?
Try running

apt-get update
