How to remove Ubuntu from hard drive
I had Ubuntu installed with Windows as primary OS. Now I want to use only Windows, so I tried to reinstall it and Windows installation CD does not recognize the hard drive. When I try to boot from hard drive I get grub error 22. Basically I reformatted hard drive on Windows machine, and obviously and did not remove Ubuntu completely. How can I remove what is left from Ubuntu and install Windows on it.
Thank you. |
open up gparted on the ubuntu livecd and reformat the drive

To restore MBR for Windows, thereby overwriting Grub, Task B1 or B2 in the last link of my signature refers.

i also suffered with this type of problem....the solution is not very good though....what i did install mandrake 10.0 and then the boot loader have been changed.....now you can install windows by xps bootable cd....i know this is not good sulution but it did work.....
__________ thanks |
If you have a boot loader problem that "Just booting tips" cannot cure it I would be interested to know.
With this proviso : If the the system boots but the kernel panic that is not a boot loader's problem because by that time the boot loader has finished its work and handed the control over to the kernel. |
Choose R when the Windows installation procedure gets that far, then in the Recovery Console type:
fixmbr |
brianL,
Your suggestion is Task B2 I indicated in Post #6. The same can be achieved by a Dos floppy which I described as Rask B1. If the Windows is a Vista the method to restore its MBR is described as Task B7, all inside "Just booting tips". |
Sorry, saikee, I missed that reference - scrolled down too quickly.

i too have same prob but with fedora... boot loader wont allow the xp bootable cd to mount....... to avoid it i'll install ubunto and then reformat that using xp...... so better reinstall the ubunto and then try XP bootable

Thank you very much for your help. FYI, I followed Saikee advice and it worked. After all it was very simple.
