How to remove Ubuntu 10.04 entirely from my PC
 

hey guys out there,
I would need a help here. I am really stuck after installing dual OS on my PC. What happened was, I wanted to get rid of Ubuntu from my PC and by reformatting it. Somehow, my drives went missing when i log into Windows.

Below is the scenario:-
I have 4 partitions on my disk. Partition C is where my Microsoft Windows XP is sitting. Then i have partition D, E and F. I installed Ubuntu on F by allocating 10GB for that OS. F itself is 20GB. remaining 10GB is where i store normal data when i log into windows. While i reformatted C, Ubuntu wasnt working anymore as i believe the kernel/grub sync to the MBR which is the windows(correct me if i am wrong). Therefor my PC was having problem to boot up. therefore, i reinstalled ubuntu back and my computer was manage to boot up. However, it kept crashing and having errors.
So, what i did is to re-merge partition E and F. When i merge them using Windows, all the data was lost in there. However, Ubuntu was still sitting there since its unseen on Windows and i tried to partition back E and F using Ubuntu. This time, when i got back into Windows i am not able to see both drives and my Ubuntu is completely gone.

Therefore, I need to know how to entirely clear Ubuntu from my PC (its like setting back to default factory mode) as i need to reformat my Windows and regain back my drives that was merged using Ubuntu. Anyone, knows about this, please do help me.

Do you have the windows install CD ?
In that case it is easy to reboot using the windows CD boot windows MBR back with the commands fixboot and fix MBR .
Before doing so download gparted and burn iy as a iso file .
Test gpated by booting from the gparted cd but do not use it yet.
After putting back windows MBR and make certain that windows is booting , restart with the gparted CD in CD drive and formatted the linux partition in NFTS

Thank you for your advice and i managed to solve the problem. Now, i am able to see my hard disk and only running Windows on it.

I just wonder, why did you delete Ubuntu? Maybe it was an easily solved issue.

And remember, you can always play around with Linux without leaving Windows or modifying your hard drive if you use VirtualBox.
