How to remove NetBsd disklabel?
 

Hi everyone. Thanks for your help. My 4th primary partition is divided into several extended partitions. Xubuntu, Centos 6.5 and swap are my first three primary partitions. I installed NetBSD on sda5. It made a disklabel that I can't get rid of. I reformatted the partition as ext4 and ran update-grub. NetBSD still shows up in the grub2 menu even though it's gone. I deleted all the extended partitions in sda4 and then remade and reformatted them as ext4. Installed Arch on sda5. Again NetBSD shows up as a menu entry in grub2.

Gparted disklabel does not show the NetBSD disklabel. The disk utility in Centos 6.5 does not see the NetBSD disklabel I've Googled for several days now and found a lot of information on installing NetBSD but nothing on getting rid of it. The one thing that comes to mind is that when I formatted the partitions I did the quick format. Would it help if I overwrote the whole partition with X's? any advice would be appreciated.

Three things come to mind. One is a BSD loader is someplace. Two is that grub hasn't been updated. Three is I don't know but see about the other two.

Okay. Problem is solved. The whole system booted from grub2 (Xubuntu) on the first primary partition. I had removed all references to NetBSD from the 40_custom file and grub.cfg and ran update-grub. NetBSD still showed up.

All documentation for NetBSD stated that when installed to a partition and not the full disk that the installer did not write to the mbr. This and other documentation led me to believe that the disklabel was a file hidden somewhere at the beginning of the partition that NetBSD was installed to.

For one reason or another I had to reinstall Xubuntu on the first primary partition. When I did, the NetBSD disklabel disappeared. At this time I'm still not sure if the disklabel was in the mbr or hidden somewhere at the beginning of the sda1. But thankfully, the problem is solved. Thanks, everyone.
