Just reinstall over it whether it's windows or another linux distro.

Hi,

Simple answer; Format the partition(s) with your filesystem choice. No longer there after the format!

just put on the other OS you want to use over it. it will ask you to format the partition and thats it.

Windows does not recognize identify the Linux partition ... Any idea what I am missing here???

If you're trying to read from it you'll need to install a driver so Windows can understand the file format. Which to use depends on the format your Linux drive is in.

If you're trying to overwrite the partition and it won't work, try deleting the partition and creating a blank one.

First of all boot from the Ubuntu live cd you installed it with, say you want to "try ubuntu without installing", then use the gpartition application to format the hard drives as ntfs or fat32
Afterwards, install windows.
If you already have dualbooting with windows on the laptop, your going to need to use the windows repair (if xp use the recovery console to type fixmbr and fixboot, vista i don't know).

Hi,

For 'Vista';
Code:

'Start > Right Click Computer > Manage >Disk Management > Pick Media >Right Click On desired Media'
then select the desired media operation.

I like to use the utilities that are available for the M$ Win XP/Vista to prevent potential problems, especially with Vista.

Example would be Vista hdd Partition resize or defrag I prefer to use the M$ disk management tools instead of GNU/Linux utilities.

you could try booting from a livecd or just unnmounting the disk and deleting the specific partition with fdisk, then let windows (or whatever) install to the blank space. It will be easy to not overwrite the wrong partition this way.

use fdisk to delete the partition, then let other os install in the unused space, this way it is easy to not overwrite the wrong partition
