How to remove autostartup programs.

I got Kubuntu kde 4.1 (the latest version 8.10) yesterday I installed pidgin (a messinger program). Now today I started my computer back up, kubuntu starts perfectly but when pidgin wants to startup everything blocks, nothing I can do except moving the mouse...
(I googled already a few sites, they all say remove it from the autostart map but pidgin isn't in the folder...)

some one got an idea what I can do to fix this?
thx

Look in KMenu/System Settings/Advanced/Autostart instead of the Autostart directory.
Maybe Pidgin is listed there. Or look in the Pidgin package for the files installed with it in the KDE tree.

Edit: I realize that you cannot enter KDE, so my first suggestion was stupid. Now I suggest that you boot into runlevel 3 (ie without KDE), and from a console you will be able to uninstall the Pidgin package.

Create another user account and login into that user account. See if pidgin blocks there as well.

From your description it is not clear if the problem happens only on your account or for all user accounts. If it only happens on your account, then some of the config files is misfitted, so you should remove everything pidgin-related from your home directory.

If the problem happens on all user accounts, then the given version pidgin is buggy (can happen), so either update or remove completely and switch to some other messenger app.
