How to reinstall ubuntu without formatting harddisk?
 

Hi,
I am facing problem with my current ubuntu installation. I posted the problem in this forum, but nobody answered. So I have decided to re install ubuntu.
Is there any way to reinstall ubuntu without formatting harddisk? I dont want to loose my data. Size of data on harddisk is huge, so its difficult to take backup of it.
Any solution?

You really should back up the critical stuff before you do anything. But you may notice when you boot there is the "repair" option. That will allow you to correct most problems. If it is one particular application giving you the problem, open the package manager and find the program and select "reinstall" and you may fix the problem.

I presume that you have only one partition for linux, and thus the problem. The next time you install afresh, you might use at least three partitions, swap, / (linux), and /home (all your files). Thereby you are able to format / and do a new installation while leaving the /home partition undisturbed.

Shame on you! All those files you have and no backup. How do you dare?

I have already posted it your previous thread and you should try to reconfigure your card before re installing the complete os.
It is not possible to re install Ubuntu without formatting the drive if you do not have different partitions i.e. if you only have one root partition "/".
Else if you have created different partitions like home then keep that intact and format only the one that does not contain data.
It is a good practice to keep home partition different from your /.

You may want to check the former (see subject line) and ask or search for information on how to bring Ubuntu files & apps from a dedicated partition install into a Wubi install. Seems about the best alternative I can think of to reformatting.
