How to reinstall an Ethernet card driver in RHEL5?

Hi friends,

I have an 8139 realtek NIC, which was working fine. Now, I messed it up and I wish to manually remove the driver and then restart the machine, so that it can automatically detect it...
please let me know how i could do it..Thanks.

you need to remove the entry for /etc/modprobe.conf

You should also be able to remove the module if its not being used see "modprobe -r" for more information.

Ok if you remove the entry from /etc/modprobe.conf that will stop the driver from being loaded during boot. However if you want to unload the driver from a running kernel you will need to stop the device and remove the driver using the modprobe -r command. You can only unload a driver if there are no devices using it.
