How to recove deleted files
By mistake I deleted a directory from my flash memory under linux(SuSE+Gnome+Nautilus) using the Delete option instead of Move To Trash. Is there a way to recover that directory.

Try to look in "LQ" db first to see if someone else has asked this before. Don't worry, this is a common question though. Check out: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/152471

Thank you rootyard for your quick response.

'recover' application did not work since the flash memory has 'vfat' as the file system. Also, tried to use the following command:
grep -a -B[size before] -A[size after] 'text' /dev/[your_partition] but the output was directed to the terminal and characters are not readable. Is there an application to restore a directory under the 'vfat' file system. Any help is greatly appreciated. |
ack... i would say you could mount under windows and use undel or something like it, but that only works with hard drives plus you need a version of m$ that has the real DOS underneath. If you are interested, there are a lot of commercial solutions but nothing completely free that I'm aware of. Sometimes you're just screwed, although I hope youre not.
