Make sure you have the media plugins
gstreamer-plugins-good
gstreamer-plugins-bad
gstreamer-plugins-ugly

For a commercial dvd, you need
libdvdcss

Also note that RHEL 5 is a rather old, but stable and still supported, Linux distro that is designed for workstations and servers primarily. It will not come with the latest multimedia toys as a more recently released distro would.

Also, you don't say what kins of videos (file format) you're trying to play...

you dont RH 5 died over a decade ago, is 100% unsupported, and there are no 3rd party repos that are still active for RH 5.

RH 6 went live in

Red Hat Linux 6.0 is released.
Now if you are talking RHEL 5.x, then again you might be up against it as there are zero official repos with licensed 3rd party codecs. you will have to find them in either EPEL or other 3rd party unsupported repositories that could cause conflicts with your license agreement with RH for support.

Also keep in mind that if you are not up to date on your contract you will be unable to install anything new via RHN.
