How to patch SuSE 9 kernel source?
I'm a Linux newbie. I have SuSE 9 installed and found patch on SuSE's website kernel-source-2.4.21-144.src.rpm.
<This stupid forum doesn't allow first post to include http link>
I also found this instructions to patch SuSE 9 2.4.21-99 kernel source to -144. I'm trying to recompile 144 kernel myself.
www <dot> suse <dot> de / ~agruen / kernel-doc
PATCH SELECTION MECHANISM
$ tar xvfz linux-2.4.21.tar.gz
$ for p in $(./guards $(./arch-symbols) < series.conf) ; do
patch -d linux-2.4.21 -p1 < $p || break
done
My question is, how do I issue this "$ for p in..." command? When I type them out in bash prompt, it always says:
bash: syntax error near unexpected token 'patch'.
What do I do wrong here? Please help.
Thanks.
