How to patch a driver
 

I'm having trouble in patching a net driver called skge. I know it's in experimental state and I've read that there is an upgrade for this.

This is the mail I've found:

As you can see, not so far from the header, the mail contains this:

Stephen Hemminger:
sk98lin: no d-link support (kconfig)
skge: no longer experimental
skge: speed setting
sky2: speed setting fix

I don't quite understand what do I have to do to 'upgrade' the skge driver that I have in order to take it out of the experimental state.

Does anyone know how to do this? :)

That mail was from February ... did you try to find out whether
the patch has made it into the main-stream kernel?


The drivers date in 2.6.16.16 is 2006-05-11 ...

The following Changelogs mention it:
ChangeLog-2.6.15.5
ChangeLog-2.6.16 (this one mentions the not experimental bit)
...

Maybe just grab a whole newer kernel?

Normally, what you would do is just patch your kernel.

man patch should tell you most of what you need to know to get this done (and some of the howtos on this site).

But if it's in the new kernel, I would just upgrade the kernel, you'll have to recompile anyway, so it might be better to just try the new kernel.
