Hi,

You need to add
Code:
-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m tcp -p tcp --dport 8080 -j ACCEPT
before the COMMIT line in /etc/sysconfig/iptables and restart service iptables
For more details have a look here

Regards

if input to url just use http://tomcatdomain.com:8080

alternatively you can forward 8080 to 80 with httpd.conf
using rewrite rules

Code:
<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName tomcatdomain.com
    RewriteEngine      On
    RewriteRule      ^(.*)$    http://localhost:8080/$1 [P]
    UseCanonicalName On
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ [L]
</VirtualHost>

its work for me with centos
