How to open an installed application on Damn Small Linux?

when I try to open what I just installed(filename:mplayer.dsl, extension:dsl), this appears:
"What would you like to do with this file?
  • Create a new filetype for this extension
  • Add this extension to an existing filetype
  • Enter a command to open with
  • View file
  • Cancel"
which option should I choose, and what's the next step?
Thx

if you are not going to use the gui link in the desktop menu and click on it
( should be the gnome-mplayer / or g-mplayer)

then open a terminal and type in
Code:
cd /to/the/location/of/the/video/
mplayer VideosNAME.mpg ( or wav or mp4 or mkv or avi or ...)
mplayer is a terminal only program

or
did you install the GNOME front end Gnome-mplayer
or
install the QT front end SMplayer

i installed this version of mplayer http://distro.ibiblio.org/damnsmall/...layer.dsl.info
when I type the command that you wrote it says illegal instruction.. (i am logged in as root)
i googled it, and i read that i maybee need an xfree86driver for this program
is there any other solution, or other media player(that you know) for DSL, that doesn't requires a driver?

Please copy and paste the exact command you ran and the exact error that it responded with, cliff notes aren't very helpful. And you should be running mplayer as your user, not root.

May I chime in that root should normally not be used for anything except installing, upgrading or reparing the system.

Looks like you only downloaded the .info file, you need the program file.
