How to mount a windows partition with write permission?

I tried adding this to /etc/fstab and do a "mount /windows"

Quote:
/dev/hda5 /windows ntfs defaults,nls=utf8,umask=0,quiet 0 0
But it only shows read and execute permission.

Any idea why?

The step-by-step instructions are in the Ubuntu documentation.

/dev/hda5 /windows ntfs-3g rw,exec,umask=0000,uid=1000,gid=1000,quiet 0 0

I'd use ntfs-3g rather than ntfs; ntfs was never intended to write to ntfs, at least not primarily. Ntfs-3g may need to be installed first, though.

Btw, are you sure that the partition is hda5, not sda5?
