How To Modify Username


This may seem stupid but i don't know how to modify a user's name. For Example change tomd to tomj.

Please help! I used to be Windows user.

I think you have to edit /etc/passwd directly with

vipw

This kind of works??! Only that the user can send emails with her new username, but she cannot receive emails.

The Error is:
"Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info."

Pls help?

I tried the command usermod -l new_username current_username

This seems 2 fix this problem.
